Writing Task 2: Responding to Survey Questions
Read the following information.
The state government is proposing a new agriculture policy in your state but some organizations are opposing it because they feel, the new policy is against state farmers. Government has sent out an opinion survey to see what residents would like to say on this issue.
New agriculture policy:
Option A: Import cheaper grains and vegetables from other countries.
Option B: Bring in more land under cultivation and support local farmers.
To whom it may concern. I am afraid I disagree with what most people say about this issue. In my view, I think by importing cheaper grains and vegetables from neighbouring countries we are creating a balance in our country's Balance of Trade. The difference between the value of imports and the value of exports. By importing food grains from other countries, we are opening up opportunities for exporting our goods into other countries, thereby expanding our economy. The revenue generated can be used for developing our farmer's agriculture by offering advanced technology and irrigation facilities. Another reason is that importing we get a wide variety of vegetables and cereals as some vegetables may grow in a tropical climate and some in wet areas. The last reason is the climate of our state. As you are aware, our state is under snow for six months a year. It makes it difficult for us to grow long term crops. For that reason, we can concentrate on short cash-rich crops which can be exported like ornamental flowers! I understand that our state farmers are apprehensive about this import policy, but it will benefit them and our state in the long run. Regards, Tony
