Writing Task 2: Responding to Survey Questions

Read the following information.

A local NGO working for the betterment of school-going kids, especially focusing on reducing the stress level in the new generation has sent out an opinion survey to see what people think about the presence of multimedia gadgets in house.

NGO conducting a survey:

Option A: Kids should have no access to gadgets like smartphones or iPad etc..
Option B: Kids should be encouraged to read books in their free time.

Dear Sir/ Madam While I do see the benefits of motivating the children to utilize their free time in reading, but I believe the idea of keeping the kids away from electronic gadgets is a better option because it affects their mental health. Firstly, it is difficult for parents to keep an eye on their toddlers all the time. In that case, children may access a few websites which they should not view. For instance, youngsters should not watch pornography. Secondly, the overuse of electronics, such as cellphones or tablets, may affect the mental health of teenagers. Additionally, the side-effects could be a shortage of memory. For example, storing phone numbers on smartphones has lead to a reduction in our ability to remember contact details. Lastly, young kids resist playing outdoor games due to the excessive usage of gadgets. The minors get so fascinated with the devices that they are not willing to play with their friends. This affects their physical health leading to obesity in early age. In summary, whilst the kids must be encouraged to learn from textbooks, they must also be kept away from such type of types of equipment until they can understand the advantages and disadvantages of its uses. Kind regards, Mark
