Writing Task 1: Writing an Email

Read the following information.

You are applying for a job and need a letter of reference from someone who knew you when you were at school.

Write a letter to the old teacher in about 150-200 words. Your email should do the following things:

  • say what job you have applied for
  • explain why you want this job
  • suggest what information the teacher should include

Dear Mrs Bennet, I am writing to request a reference letter for a job that I am applying for. I am excited to inform you that I have finally found my dream job at ABC animation company and have applied for their Game developer role. It's the same company that designed Super Cheerio! So the job requirement is in line with my skills and interest. As you already know, my passion for Gaming and stuff related to Gaming and animation. I think this job will give me the job satisfaction which I lack in my current desk job. In addition to that, I will be paid a handsome salary which will solve all my financial hardships. While applying for the job, I came across their requirement of a reference letter from an acquaintance from school. So I would like to request you to issue me a reference letter stating the year when I completed my course, the subjects that I had taken and my conduct towards people and a short write up about my capabilities. This indeed helps me have an added advantage against other eligible candidates. I appreciate your support, and I look forward to hearing from you. Regards Tony
