Writing Task 2: Responding to Survey Questions
Read the following information.
You are living in a country where most of the power is generated by Nuclear plants. An independent NGO has sent out an opinion survey to see what residents feel about the safety of the Nuclear plants.
NGO Survey :
Option A: Solar Energy: Its free, its abundant but expensive.Option B: Nuclear Plants: Steps should be taken to make existing nuclear plants safer.
To whom it may concern. I think solar energy is a safer and better source of energy than nuclear energy. Here are the reasons for this preference. First and more importantly, solar energy has a clear source of energy, which means solar energy only impacts our environment by manufacturing solar cells. After that, there are not any resultant residues. On the other hand, nuclear energy produces radioactive residues that should be safely stored for centuries. Second, solar energy is more expensive for current users. However, it does not generate any cost for future generations. They will pay the cost of storing radioactive residues for centuries. Combining these two costs, I am not sure if solar energy is most costly than nuclear energy. Considering these reasons, from my perspective, solar plants are a better option than nuclear plants because the environmental impact is almost zero, and I am not sure if nuclear energy is cheaper than solar energy. I appreciated the opportunity to give my opinion on this issue. Regards, Tony
