Writing Task 2: Responding to Survey Questions
Read the following information.
Your are living in a country where most of the power is generated by Nuclear plants. An independent NGO has sent out an opinion survey to see what residents feel about the safety of the Nuclear plants.
NGO Survey :
Option A:Solar Energy: Its free, its abundant but expensive.
Option B: Nuclear Plants: Steps should be taken to make existing nuclear plants safer.
To whom it may concern. Power generation using nuclear energy disrupted the traditional systems of electricity production. Nuclear power provides enhanced throughput with minimal expenditure on the raw material. In my opinion, we should elevate the safety features of nuclear power plants rather than investing in an unreliable source of electricity. Firstly, electricity consumption is increasing day by day, leading to exponential depletion of non-renewable resources. As per the Times survey, Canada has an abundance of raw material used in fusion reactions in a nuclear reactor. The plants constructed in secluded places limit the domain of damage due to safety lapse and provide a continuous power supply. Secondly, although solar energy is the most abundant energy source, converting the sun's energy to electricity has its limitations. Majorly, the consumption rises in the winters due to the cold weather and the snowfall. The solar panels do not work efficiently in these adverse conditions. Also, the limited life span of the equipment used in solar power generation makes it cost-inefficient. Based on the above two considerations, I would prefer that the government take the necessary steps to enhance the safety features of the nuclear plants. This will prevent unforeseen disaster while providing an economical and uninterrupted power supply. Regards, Mike
