Writing Task 2: Responding to Survey Questions
Read the following information.
You live in a small town of 10,000 people. A large green area in the centre of town is undeveloped. The city has sent out an opinion survey to see what residents would like to have built in that area.
Option A: Shopping Complex: This shopping mall would include restaurants, a large supermarket, and a movie theatre.
City Development Survey :
Option B: Recreational Park: This park would include a sports complex, a large green area, and a small petting zoo.
To whom it may concern, Thanks for considering me for providing an opinion related to town development. Considering the residents' opinions like me in such a decision-making process shows how much the town planning committee considers their residents and their convenience. As mentioned, I would like that the committee should build a shopping complex in the large green area. I have the following reasons why it is essential to build one such. Our town is located 25 KM far from the central city. Mostly during winters, it's not very convenient for elderly persons like me to drive that far for groceries, restaurants and other daily needs. As per last city survey results, the town has now more than 35% of older adults living in individual houses. So building a shopping complex will help to suffice the daily needs of elderly people. Specifically, building recreational parks does not make much sense as we do have small parks around the town. Also, youngsters usually go hiking in the nearby forest. And nearby towns have a nice big zoo which usually families go to as they run buses regularly. So, as per my thought, there are many recreational options already with the town, but do not have one big shopping complex, one-stop, shop for daily life needs. My opinion is to build a Shopping complex with supermarkets, restaurants, and a movie theatre for entertainment during intense winters as outdoors are very harsh in our town for older people.
