Writing Task 1: Writing an Email

Read the following information.

You eat at your college cafeteria at lunch time every day.. However, you think it needs some improvements.

Write an email to the college authorities in about 150-200 words. Your email should do the following things:

  • explain what you like about the cafeteria,
  • say what is wrong with it,
  • suggest how it could be improved.

Dear Sir / Madam, I am a full-time college student and refer to eat at the college cafeteria at lunchtime every day. It is a vibrant place in the afternoons and is a great place to meet other students and friends. I use this time to share stuff about my studies, etc. I wish to bring to your attention the long wait times and cleanliness of the cafeteria. Most of the days, I, along with others, spend 15 to 20 minutes to get served, and this takes almost half of our lunch breaks, and very little time is left to eat the food. There is no signage suggesting to clean up after eating, and sometimes we have to clean tables to sit down or wait for the staff to clean the table. I want to suggest scheduling more staff during lunch hours so that service can be expedited and minimal time is spent waiting for the food. I would also like to suggest signage to clean up the table afterwards and drop serving trays, recyclables and waste in respective bins. It might help to schedule less staff for cleaning the tables and eating area. I hope you will look into this and do the needful to enhance one's experience at the cafeteria. Regards, Felix.
