Writing Task 2: Responding to Survey Questions
Read the following information.
Your university is conducting survey to know how many work hours should be permitted to students in a week time. The University has sent out an opinion survey to see what students think about it.
Weekly working hours for Students :
Option A: Less than 15 hours per week in a single job.
Option B: More than 20 hours per week with all multiple jobs hours added.
I believe limited work hours would be better than spending more hours in multiple jobs. Even though students will make more money with long working hours, a fixed work hours schedule would offer more practical benefits to students throughout their studies. A limited work schedule would allow students to concentrate more on their studies; more time would be available to the students to prepare for examinations, and, as a result, their performance will improve. For example, when the University of Calgary enforced the law for fixed work hours, there was a significant improvement in students' performance. Another advantage of option A is the health benefits students would gain. Students would be able to take out some time for extra-curricular activities. A recent study revealed students engaged in multiple jobs are more prone to health issues like headaches, sleep-deprivation, and even severe mental illness. Having a rule for a fixed work schedule would benefit the students' health. These are the reasons that I think fewer work hours per week in a single job would be better for the students. Again, these are my personal beliefs, but I will support whatever the University decides to do. I appreciate the opportunity to provide input on this issue.
