Writing Task 1: Writing an Email

Read the following information.

You recently made reservations for dinner at a very famous and expensive restaurant in town. However, the meal and the service were terrible. The restaurant manager was not available to solve the problem, so you left without a resolution.

Write an email to the restaurant's manager in about 150-200 words. Your email should do the following things:

  • State what problems you had with the food you ordered.
  • Complain about the service.
  • Describe how you want the restaurant to resolve the problem to your satisfaction.

Dear Restaurant Manager, I am writing to express my displeasure with the hospitality I received at your restaurant last weekend. I had made reservations for four at your restaurant for 7.00 pm. When we arrived at your restaurant, the reception desk was empty, and we had to wait 15 minutes out in the cold weather. In addition to that, the waiter took a long time to take our order. Finally, we placed an order for your signature seafood platter and Chicken Pizza for our kids. To our disappointment, we found out that the Pizza served was cold and soggy. Then, while tasting the seafood platter, I felt something sharp in my mouth and found it to be a shell of the crab. We didn't expect such low-quality food from a top-rated elite restaurant. Eventually, I called for the waiter and requested a replacement. But to my astonishment, he refused to acknowledge the flaw and said," it's my choice to eat it or throw it", and that he will not replace the dish as the restaurant is crowded and he is busy. When I requested an audience with you, I didn't get a proper response from him. So, I request you to refund the bill of $350 and make sure to sensitize your employees to treat your customers courteously. Hope to hear from you. Dissatisfied Customer, Thomas
